Fashion on the Web. The New MySpace?

Fashionspace_2

Looking for up-and-coming designers, or at least, want to see what their up to? Check out the new stylish alternative to MySpace.com... FashionSpace.com. Created by a London fashion student Holly Bellm, the website features aspiring designers, news, events, shopping, and a sleek layout. The 23-year-old started FashionSpace last October, and now 20,000 members in 120 countries frequent the site every day. The creator says: "While I was studying fashion...MySpace was becoming the best place for finding the next big band and unsigned artists. I saw all this amazing creative talent around me and thought: why not do the same for fashion?" Sounds like a community of friends, indeed! But it's not all so noble... Bellm and her team get a 10% cut of any sale made through their networking platform. Nice! Still, it's definitely worth checking out.

Fashion at Your Fingertips. ShopVogueTV Launches at Midnight Tonight. Second City Style Fashion Blog

Svtv_homepage_2
Conde Nast probably knows better than anyone printed fashion magazines are a dying breed, so how do they plan to make money and stay relevant ? Launch an online fashion/shopping/social networking portal (to make them a lot of money!).

Vogue was smart to tap in to fashion bloggers and just this afternoon gave us an exclusive preview of the new money generating outlet for Vogue which launches tonight at midnight.

ShopVogue.tv is a flash-based site that will create an entertainment platform for fashionistas everywhere. Unlike Project Runway and the like, the site will give the fashion hungry three series or shows (to start). They are:

1. 60 Seconds to Chic
A series dedicated to short snippets on how to go from the office to a night on the town quickly.

2. Behind the Lens
Fashion's answer to Behind the Music. Get to know your favorite designer and style influencers as they are interviewed by Vogue.

3. Trend Watch
The name pretty much says it all.

While you are viewing  any of the shows you can always shop. All products featured in segments will scroll with prices. Click on said item and you can find where to purchase it either online or at a store near you. You can even transfer the information to your mobile phone or send it to a friend as a not-so-subtle suggestion.

Additionally there is a Fashion-U-Share social networking component which allows you to set up your own lookbook or post your own looks and video to the fashion community.

The goal of this site is to drive you...the consumer, to shop your brains out. This is strictly a consumer site marketed to the shopper, not the industry. When Vogue realized that luxury spending (especially online) has been skyrocketing lately and the projections are showing it's ust the tip of the iceberg...they wanted a piece of the action. Can you blame them?

All runway shows displayed on ShopVogue.tv are of the current season meaning, they will point you in the direction (read Neiman's) to buy the items and the industry runway shows to their other site: Style.com.

It took Vogue nine months to build the site and while segments will be added periodically, the entire site will be overhauled November 1, for the holiday season...where you are assured to blow even more money at their affiliate stores! Mo' money, mo' money, MO' MONEY!

Internet. Phishing for Fashionistas. Now I've Seen Everything. Second City Style Blog

Spamthatgotme_4

Now I've seen everything. While going through my morning purge of junk mail recently... well, I have to say — they got me!

Subject line: Gianfranco Ferre Dies at 62.

My first thought.. "This is old news – who's emailing something on this subject now?"  Then another quick dumb thought, "Is this something old I never opened..back in June?" An even dumber thought, "Is there a new twist in the case?"

No - they got me! They got me good! I yelped out loud. I had to laugh when I saw what the product was! As if I don't know where to get this stuff. I never could have predicted that my entire life in the millennium was going to include the daily endurance of hearing a word, and seeing a product that, thankfully, serves no purpose for me, or anyone I know, (at this time at least).

The silver lining in all of this? It made me think about my Gianfranco Ferre wrap top that I bought from Loehmann's, back in the 90s, in the richest shade of coffeebean brown, with a beautiful hand to the fabric, gorgeous drape and fabulous fit... It reminded me that Ferre was a truly a great designer!

Fashion Eyewear. Personalized Eyewear Style Sessions Online: Find Your Perfect Face Frames. Second City Style Fashion Blog

Contactsandspecs
Chicago's Contacts and Specs is bringing personalized eyewear style sessions to you via the Internet.

Yhst50888373590496_1945_14 Normally, you would start your new glasses quest with a visit to your local store where an optician might utilize the latest eyewear technology to help you pick the right specs that reflect the perfect you.

Now, Contacts and Specs have made it possible for you to begin your ocular metamorphosis while comfortably situated in front of your computer.  Here’s how:

Yhst50888373590496_1945_13 Unlike any other site for eyewear shopping, Contacts and Specs website will allow fashion consultations by simply uploading your photo, with a brief description of what type of style you are interested in, and answering three questions:

1. How would you describe your personality?

2. How would you describe your style?

3. What look do you wish to achieve with your new glasses?

After the photo and personality overview is received, the owner of Contacts andYhst50888373590496_1946_75_2 Specs, a 20 year industry veteran and style aficionado, will personally review your questionnaire and study your photo with the same individualized, expert attention as if you were sitting in front of him in the boutique.

After selecting at least three style suggestions from the boutique’s global frame inventory, featuring collections from Alain Mikli, IC Berlin, Face a Face and other exclusive optical designers, Contacts and Specs will send you pictures of your face with the glasses on (made possible by PhotoShop technology) so you can see how you will really look wearing the frames. How totally fab is that? This is a one-of-a-kind experience that everyone should have.

Shopping. Found Object Of Desire: Slifter Makes the Ultimate Fashion Find

Getattachmentaspx_2

A few years ago during a heavy rainstorm in Paris my sweet boyfreind was kind enough to go running through the streets looking for a new pair of shoes for my very tired, wet and throbbing feet. It took him three hours (yes, in Paris). But men and women all over the world can rejoice: the days of having a fashion crisis are coming to an end. Thanks to Slifter's cell phone technology http://www.slifter.com/pc/slifterflash.html., you can reach out and touch just about any store in any location AND stores carrying the item along with a photo, a product description, list of prices, phone numbers, and directions. But more importantly, it means that poor souls like my less-than fashion forward boyfriend will be spending less time in the rain.

Shopping Alert! A Picture Is Worth A Thousand Words. New Search Site Like.com Makes Locating Those Hard to Find Items Easier. Second City Style Fashion Blog

Logolike
Search site Like.com is live today, offering what is believed to be a shopping first — the ability to troll for fashion finds based on the visual content of photos. Way cool!

We have all tried a word search with various degrees of frustration. Enter the word "pumps" into Google and 61 million choices pop up, ranging from high heels to hydraulics. With image-based search, click on a photo you like — say a shot of Tyra Banks in knee-high boots — to find similar boots sold by the 200 merchants in the Like.com affiliate network.

The database has two million stockkeeping units in footwear, handbags, watches and jewelry and 30,000 items are added daily from retailers like Lands' End and eLuxury.com. A library of 100,000 celebrity images — the inspiration that gets shoppers jump-started — is updated daily.
Tyra_1
Let's say you love Tyra's boots.
Guess_boot
This Guess boot for $140 is one of several that were suggested.

Apparel will be added to the mix in two weeks, said Munjal Shah, chief executive officer of San Mateo, Calif.-based Riya, which built the search engine. Later, shoppers will be able to upload their own photos and search the entire Web.

"The big idea here is you'll be able to search by submitting a photo as your search query," Shah said. "Everywhere else, you've got to type in some words and describe what you are looking for. That works for some things, like an iPod, but doesn't really work for things that are highly aesthetic or design-oriented." Consumers may not have the vocabulary to describe what they want, but they know it when they see it. The site also offers text-based search. Like.com

Fashion hounds rejoice!
