Eva Mendes Named Calvin Klein Underwear's, Er, Face

Fresh out of rehab, Eva Mendes has landed herself a new gig. She is the sexy new face and bod kicking off Calvin Klein Underwear's worldwide advertising campaign, according to WWD.

Mendes had already been named as the face of Calvin Klein's upcoming fragrance, the name of which has not been revealed.

This arangement reflects the growing trend of designer brands associating their images with celebrities. Kate Bosworth is the current face of Calvin Klein Jeans and Hilary Swank was the glam image for Calvin Klein Underwear in 2006. Meanwhile, David Beckham is all over billboards worldwide in ads for Emporio Armani Underwear (thank God for that!).

Beginning this fall, Mendes will be featured in a multimillion-dollar print and outdoor advertising campaign for the Calvin Klein Underwear brand, as well as the launch of Seductive Comfort, the latest introduction of Calvin Klein foundations for women. The Seductive Comfort group addresses the consumer demand for underwear and intimates that have the aesthetics, comfort, function and brand recognition for women with fuller figures and generous bust lines.

Seductive Comfort will consist of three bra styles: a Customized Lift bra that will offer enhanced comfort and support, hidden elastic treatments and stitch-free hook-and-eye closures; a T-shirt style that will feature a proprietary foam cup for every cup size, and an Underwire number with a spacer cup lining [a double knit with lightweight air pockets] for women who do not want to add dimension, but want an everyday bra.

The bras will retail for $44. Sizes range from 32A to 38DD. Colors will be ivory, dune beige, black, blush pink, slate gray and smoke brown.

According to CNN Money.com, Victoria needs a new secret. Victoria's Secret is like a supermodel model showing her age...she's past her prime and competitors are taking notice and advantage.

The company is facing an onslaught of new competition at a time when its strategy of store expansion and advertising looks tired. Even the company's marketing juggernaut, its annual fashion show (which took place last Thursday night will air December 4 on CBS), is losing steam. After almost two decades of category control it looks like the company is losing it's footing.

Kohl's, Target,J.C. Penney, Bloomingdale's, Nordstrom, American Eagle Outfitters, and Lane Bryant are just some of the retailers that have added new lingerie lines or updated existing offerings by renovating dressing rooms and adding special services like bra fitters, moves that are stealing Victoria's Secret's thunder.

The company's troubles come as overall U.S. sales of intimate apparel are starting to slow. For the nine months ended September, sales of intimate apparel totaled $8 billion, up just 1.6%  from the year earlier period.

To defend its turf, Victoria's Secret is rolling out several new initiatives, including the launch of new products that go beyond lingerie and an aggressive expansion of its store base.

Analysts are saying it's a risky plan coming at a time when sales at Victoria's Secret stores open at least a year are slowing. "I'm concerned that Victoria's Secret is increasing capital expenditures at a time when traffic at its stores is declining," said Morgan Stanley analyst Michelle Clark.

It's no longer a secret...Gisele Bundchen no longer wears Victoria's Secret. Why? Greed. Pure and simple. According to NY Post's Page Six, the Brazilian supermodel is giving up her wings as lead angel for Victoria's Secret because they wouldn't pony up more than her $5 million-a-year salary.

Her sister, Patricia Bundchen, confirmed to Brazilian Web site Glamurana that contract talks had broken off.

"Her demands were outrageous. She got a new lawyer who was unrealistic," said a source. "Victoria's Secret doesn't care. They have five new hotter, younger girls debuting next year. And they won't have to deal with any craziness." Reps for Bundchen didn't return e-mails nor would a rep for Victoria's Secret comment.
