New Beyonce Line. House of Dereon Gussies Up Children.

All over the blogosphere, people are up in arms about the new ads for Beyonce's line of clothes for girls. The ads, in what is supposed to be an editorial way (???), make the little girls look much more mature than any 3 to 8 year old should ever look.
Houseofdereonkids
Little girls in high heels and makeup are only cute if they look like they got into Mommy's closet, not if they look like they are about to go out to Les Deux. We feel like Beyonce may be channeling her inner stage-mom... there is definitely a level of JonBenet Ramsey in these pictures. Is Jay-Z totally frightened for his future children? We are, and we have to agree with the up-in-arms folks-- these looks for children are totally inappropriate. As Michelle Malkin at the NY Post puts it, the "girls' clothing line makes Miley's bare-backed glam session look like a Shirley Temple photo shoot." That, and the clothes are just ugly. All there is to say is, what were Beyonce and her mother thinking?!

Anticounterfeiting. New York to Get Edumacated

Counterfeit_bags

New Yorkers are about to get a lesson or two about purchasing counterfeit goods. Mind you, since most of the goods are sold here, it seems logical. (You don't buy counterfeit , do you?)  According to WWD, a new public service campaign aimed at educating New Yorkers about the human cost of purchasing counterfeit items was unveiled Tuesday at the Harper's Bazaar annual Anticounterfeiting Summit.

The goal is to make locals aware of the harm that counterfeiting causes, such as supporting child labor and taking away tax dollars from the city. The posters will be displayed throughout Manhattan, and predominantly in high-traffic tourist locations such as Times Square.

Tourists, be warned. Counterfeit is just icky anyway.

Fashion Flash. Lindsay Lohan and Fornarina Team Up

051408_11_2

Lindsay Lohan is the new face of Fornarina, an Italian lifestyle brand, starting with print ads in Spring 2009. With the struggling starlet as its spokesceleb, the company intends to make a global push into the world's fashion capitals in a move aimed at tripling its business over the next five years. "Lindsay is that very self-confident, dynamic woman, she's got a lot of attitude," said Scott Ronaldson, managing director of Fornari Retail. "That's what we're hoping our customer will aspire to." We hope those are Lindsay's only qualities that their customers aspire to, and we hope Fornarina convinces Lindsay to drop those leggings!

Fashion News. Miu Miu Taps Vanessa Paradis For Fall

Miu_miu_logo

Vanessa_paradis_2

Yeah! According to WWD, Miu Miu is done with Kirsten Dunst and has moved on to Vanessa Paradis (Johnny Depp's French paramour) to be the brand's new face for the upcoming fall campaign. Miu Miu has once again tapped Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott to photograph the ads. This makes much more sense!

In related news, Miu Miu has opened  a new store on Rodeo Drive. The Prada-owned brand's 3,200-square-foot shop opened Saturday, and marks Miu Miu's reemergence in metropolitan Los Angeles two years after closing its boutique on Melrose Avenue.

Fashion News. Donna Karan International Launches New Line.

Even in this economy, Donna Karan's ventures continue to perform. Noting this success, parent company DKI plans to launch a new line called DKNYC. The line will complement DKNY Jeans and will cover similar prices points. DKNYC will be available in July at stores like Macy's, Bloomingdale's, Lord & Taylor and Dillard's. Unlike many offshoots, DKNYC does not take its cues from DKNY, and DKI executives were keen to stress that it was not a watered-down version of DKNY looks. Instead, DKNYC offers cool urban looks but with a slightly more casual spin than its bigger sibling. Wholesale prices for DKNYC range from $100 to $150 for outerwear; $70 to $100 for jackets; $40 to $55 for pants, skirts or shirts; $40 to $80 for sweaters, and $25 to $45 for T-shirts. Check out some looks below!

Fashion Flash. Tod's, Dennis Hopper, and Gwyneth.

Gwyneth_paltrow
Ever wonder what Gwyneth does in a day? Well, actor and director Dennis Hopper is going to clue you in on a day in her life in a new, very short film. In coordination with Italian accessories brand Tod's, the film/commercial was completed last Friday.  Hopper, a longtime friend of Tod's chief executive officer Diego Della Valle, filmed Gwyneth Paltrow in Italy with her Tod's Pashmy bag. The four minute, yet-to-be-named short will debut at the Cannes Film Festival and will then play on the Tod's Web site. We're excited about the artistic advertisement!

Fashion News. Heatherette No More?

Heatherette_2

The flashiest, sparkliest, drag-iest design duo in fashion seems to be facing hard times, according to this post on the New York Magazine blog. It appears that the men of Heatherette, Richie Rich and Traver Rains, may be going their separate ways and leaving their line behind them. After their Fashion Week debacle, where they lost funding and had to cancel their show, rumors surfaced a feud between the two and an imminent split. What awaits them, if they go solo? For Rich, another clothing line named Rox and Riley, a book on club kids, and the usual, vague TV and music projects. For Rains? Coming out of this feud as the blameless, sane one!

Pret Reporteur. Spring 2008 Trends from Paris

Fashion_paris_spring_trends

Gabbie Perez for Second City Style Magazine

There is nothing quite like Paris in the spring: the blooming flowers in the Jardins du Luxembourg, the picnics in the Champs de Mars, the people watching in St. Germain. But best of all, Parisians put away their banal black wardrobes until the fall! Come April we are all ready for a fresh start, particularly in our closets. Here are the latest crazes I’ve found in Paris for spring 2008…

White is the New Cobalt
Last spring the ‘it’ color was cobalt, this season it is definitely white (and any of its variations). Sick of neon brights? It’s a bit passé here in Paris. Forget bold colors for awhile and return to a look that is simple and fresh for the spring.

To Dye For
I don’t know about you, but I think tie-dye is pretty cool — especially when done on high fashion items (a.k.a. not done in your back yard with a plastic bucket and rubber gloves). This look is laid-back yet bold, and hardly needs accessorizing. Look for one key tie-dye piece to add to your wardrobe this spring.
