Long after girls stop drawing and painting on paper, they continue to dip their fingers in colors, playing and creating and expressing themselves with make-up. No company understands make-up-as-artistic-outlet better than MAC, and last night they united art and cosmetics—literally—with the a preview launch of three collections inspired by artists.
Marilyn Minter, a photographer known for her luscious, subversive photos, hosted the first party in her Soho studio. It showcased her photographs—sexy, messy, unexpected pictures of mud-splattered stilettos, sequined eyes and seductive, glossy red lips—alongside MAC's glitter collection: deep shades of shimmery, metallic powders the play with the light.
Richard Phillips capped off the evening at a loft in deep west Chelsea. A dimly lit gallery space featured "Bondensee," a photorealistic painting he created and then digitally "retouched," applying shades from the new collection of eyeshadow quads, lip glass and blushes to the portrait (which originally featured a nude face). Celebs including Ed Westwick and Jessica Szohr from Gossip Girl and Ashley Greene of Twilight turned out, as did designers Erin Fetherston and Cynthia Rowley.
All collections will be available August 20th.
