The Good, Bad and Ugly on the 66th Annual Golden Globes Red Carpet

Ah, the Golden Globes...thankfully we had a little reprieve from all the doom and gloom and could focus on good old fashioned glamour and a few mishaps on the red carpet. Award season has begun!

As for the fashion? It ran the gamut. It seemed most wanted to channel the nostalgic red carpet icons of the 50's and 60's (a la Mad Men). Black and white gowns were the big news of the night which is a perfect reflection of the current economy. The ones who pulled off the look on the red carpet went for details, like ruffles, folds, draping, mermaid gowns and sequins. Many chose earth tones which can be a tricky hue to pull off...and many didn't.

Some of the starlets could have been winners, but there seemed to be a fit problem. Many gowns were too tight which is a major no-no. Spanx be damned. By the way, even though you couldn't see the shoes in the photos, it would appear Jimmy Choos were the shoe of choice. All the kids were wearing them.

Let's take a look at who looked amazing and who didn't shall we?

The Good (and sometimes exceptional)

Eva Mendes in Dior and Van Cleef & Aprels jewelry.

Eva usually gets it right and is full on glamour in the color of the night...no color. Stunning.

Kate Beckinsale in J. Mendel and Fred Leighton jewelry.

Proof that white was the color of the night, Kate looks amazing.

Olivia Wilde in a violet Reem Acra gown and Van Cleef & Arpels jewelry.

It's nice to see someone in some color and the violet hue of this dress was simply gorgeous on Olivia. We also loved that she kept it simple with little jewelry. Well done.

Angelina Jolie in Versace Atelier, Jimmy Choo shoes and Neil Lane jewels.

Full on glam. Then again it doesn't hurt to have Brad Pitt on your arm. More reasons to hate her.

OK, for some reason I like this dress on her. Then again, I'm a sucker for Oscar.

Sandra Bullock in Dior, Neil Lane jewelry and a Alexandria Knight clutch.

I thought she looked just divine, even though I didn't care for the bottom of the dress. The top was beautiful on camera.

Kyra Sedgwick in Oscar de la Renta and Fred Leighton jewels.

Even though her dress blended in with the red carpet, on any other flooring she looked amazing.

January Jones in Versace

January skipped her trademark 60's glam in favor of the 40's. The blue gown was even prettier from the back which I noticed as she walked on to the stage with the Mad Men cast (my favorite show).

Evan Rachel Wood in Elie Saab

I give her credit for finally pulling off black and not looking goth! Then again dumping Marilyn Manson helps.

Maggie Gyllenhaal in head-to-toe Lanvin

Finally, we saw the Brooklyn out of the girl! Now if she could just work on her pose.

The Bad (or not so great)

Kate Winslet in Yves St. Laurent and Chopard jewels.

I love YSL, but I hated the top of this dress on Kate. When you are well-endowed, this is a neckline to avoid.

Demi Moore in Dior, a Roger Vivier clutch and Cartier jewelry

Oh Demi, you manged to be semi. This dress just wasn't for you. The color was drab, but your jewels and clutch were fab.

Jennifer Lopez in Marchesa

We get you are sexy! We get it! Do you have to be so obvious? This dress was just too gold and too sleazy for the event and the times. Tone it down girl.

Beyonce in Elie Saab and a 200 carat platinum and diamond necklace by Lorraine Schwartz

What can I say? i just don't like the way she puts herself together. It's usually Elie Saab and it's usually too tight. Who knew I could even not like a 200 carat diamond necklace?

Drew Barrymore in Dior Haute Couture by John Galliano, a Roger Vivier clutch and Lorraine Schwartz jewelry.

Nice dress, shame about the hair. Drew, you ain't Marylin. That hair was just awful.

Cameron Diaz in Chanel Haute Couture and Chanel bag and jewelry.

Once again, Cameron rolled out of bed for this one and brought the sheets with her. The dress was too big and her hair was just a mess.

Christina Appelgate in Roberto Cavalli and Lorraine Schwartz jewels

The color of this dress not to mention the bodice were not pretty. Not at all. We still love her though.

Eva Longoria in Reem Acra

Eva, honey, you are popping out of your dress. Too tight! And I love Reem Acra.

Elizabeth Banks in J. Mandel

This gown was just too drab for her complexion. It was also very boring.

Selma Hayek in Bottega Veneta

The top is a little too tight, but I doubt any men minded.

America Ferrera in Oscar de la Renta, Jimmy Choos and Fred Leighton jewels.

Would it have killed her to wear a gown? Had there been more fabric on the skirt, she would have moved up a category.

Debra Messing in Vera Wang and Fred Leighton jewels.

Lately, Debra looks like she is trying too hard. Case in point. Although I like the choice of navy.

Megan Fox in Ralph Lauren

How did Megan manage to make Ralph Lauren look cheap? Somehow she pulled off that feat. The dress is too tight.

Isla Fisher in Carlos Miele

Beautiful gown, just not a fan of the color.

The Ugly (or WTF?)

Blake Lively in Nina Ricci and Fred Leighton jewels.

Why does she dress so old? Why is this dress so tight? She looks just awful. Blake, honey, accept it. You are not a size zero, and that's OK!

Lisa Rinna in something expected. Low-cut, flashy and trashy.

Marisa Tomei in a Tom Jones get-up.

The Puffy Shirt lives!

OK, why did you go this route? You looked so hot in Damages and do middle-aged women proud the world over. Why this grandma mother-of-the-bride brunch outfit? Hello, it's the red carpet, wear a gown!

Laura Dern

Her expression says it all. How far the former Miss Golden Globe has fallen fashion-wise. Mind you, she left with her own award...so congrats.

Renee Zellweger in Carolina Herrera.

Renee wins for the worst look of the evening. The dress. The hair! Come and get your award.
