Simona Kogan for Second City Style Magazine
There are literally dozens of celebrity designers out there that find themselves high and mighty or out to dry. There are the ones that last (L.A.M.B., Victoria Beckham, and yes, we hate to say it, Jessica Simpson) and that ones that make us gag on our candy-flavored Popsicles (Nicky Hilton, Baby Phat by Kimora Lee Simmons) And who told Tara Reid she could be a designer anyway?
But we’re not here to talk about the Sarah Jessica Parkers and the Jennifer Lopezes of the world. In this edition of Celebrity “It Girl” Style, we pay tribute to the top celebrity designers that really are making it, ponder our hopes for the future of celebrity design and say bye-bye to one indie chic label that really had what it takes.
Say Bye-Bye To: Jovovich-Hawk (Milla Jovovich and Carmen Hawk):
Milla Jovovich, a Ukranian-born actress and model, is famous for her leaps and kicks in the sci-fi thriller The Fifth Element, not for her stylish ways. So when she paired up with long time friend Carmen to piece together a new fashion line called Jovovich-Hawk in 2003
(a need for reinvention inspired them, Milla once said,) we thought it
was just another celebrity duo thinking they had the fashion knack (and
financial means) to create their own label.
