Breaking TV News. America's Next Top Model Goes Transgender.
Meet Isis Tsunami, a contestant on America's Next Top Model Cycle 11. As you might have guessed, Isis Tsunami is not the model's birth name, because this particular contestant was born a boy! Yep, Isis is transgender, or as she puts it, "Some people might say that I'm transgender, some people might say transsexual. Personally I prefer 'born in the wrong body'." View a video previewing the season and featuring Isis below, from Entertainment Tonight.
Our first thought was, well that's one way to drum up publicity and boost ratings! But we shouldn't be so cynical. We applaud Tyra for supporting the LGBT community on her show, most definitely. We're surprised that she let the cat out of the bag so early! It seems like if, halfway through the season, we found out one of the contestants wasn't originally physically female, the impact might have been more groundbreaking. It probably would have altered some stereotypes, too! We wonder how the other girls in the model house will react. Surely there will be some Bible-beater in there who is shocked. Although the Bible-girls on the show are usually pretty endearing, too, when they come to terms with their housemates' varying beliefs.
Anyhoo, the real question is... can Isis win?! Is she fierce?! Check out the following videos to judge for yourself. They feature Isis in her pre-ANTM days-- that is to say, before Ms. J. and Mr. Jay worked their magic.
We love the guy in the background going, "Mmmhmmm... work honey!" Work honey, indeed.

I think it's a wonderfully courageous step that Isis has taken. She has a great opportunity to shine for the whole transgendered community. It's somewhat predictable that Fox would stoop so low. I suppose they're too busy taking the speck out of our eye to worry about the plank in their own. If only a prominent religious figure had spoken out against judging one another...
Hugs,

Thanks for posting this! I don't have time to watch ANTM in the evenings, but had heard about this and was dying to learn/see more. :-)
