There are many trends I don't take to easily, but finally warm up to. Case in point this season...gladiator sandals (flat and heels), statement necklaces, maxi dresses, painterly prints and Ikat. Then there are those trends that no matter how hard I try I just can't get my arms around. Like gladiator sandal boots...you know the ones that snake up the calf and look ridiculous? First you see them on the runway, months later on celebrities and then they trickle down to the masses and you witness them on the average Joe (or Jane) and you realize just how stupid the trend really is.

I wish I had my camera with me as I walked down Madison Avenue earlier today (in my gladiator flat sandals, I might add). Three different women/girls wearing over-the-calf gladiators passed me by and all looked odd. Especially the one who paired them with shorts! I took comfort in other men and women rubbernecking with snickers. Clearly this look is not working for many.
Thoughts? Are you successfully working this trend?

I really don't like those knee length gladiators at all!! I just bought a really cute lower length pair.

I think they can work, with a floaty skirt or dress. I think the black tall gladiators are too harsh looking though, but the brown or gold or tan ones can actually look cute. But I admit they're pretty tough to pull off.
