GenArt Film Festival Opening Night: Lotta Looks, Lotta Laughs!

Opening night for GenArt Film Festival in Chicago was last night at the The Music Box at 3733 N. Southport. The perfect summer evening brought out many different fashion looks and the two films brought on a lot of laughs!

Attendees Katie Rahn and Megan Weiner were on our Second City Style best dressed for the evening list!

Stars Alia Shawkat (Arrested Development) and Steven Kaplan appeared so sweet and young in person...and well cast as high school students in the film "Bart Got A Room", directed by Brian Heckler. The movie was about Steven Kaplan's character only having one month to get a date for prom.

Attendees get to rate the films all week for the GenArt Film Fest. I gave Bart Got a Room the highest rating, 6 points. The acting was excellent and the comedic timing and line delivery dead on. William H. Macy and Cheryl Hines as the parents were hysterical. I was repeating lines from the movie a bit later...which I think is the highest complement to any film. The type that becomes elevated to cult status. The short film Goldfish was very fun, but I did not rate it as highly as the feature.

There was a Q&A session after the film with the actors and the director, but many of the party-goers cleared out. Their loss. A party followed at The Ravenswood Billboard Factory.

This week there will be a feature film, a short film, and a party every night. Only in its second year in Chicago, this festival should not to be missed! Check out the GenArt Film Festival events online!
