Get It Now. A Tight Fit
Jacqueline Zenn for Second City Style Magazine
Baby, it’s cold outside (in most of the northern hemisphere, at least), but some of the season’s most stylish skirts and dresses are definitely on the short side - and baring your legs and therefore risking frostbite for fashion is asking too much of even the most dedicated fashionista. The obvious solution to this cold weather problem is a thick pair of tights or even leggings; and thanks to the wide variety of styles, colors, and textures available now, wearing nothing but boring black opaques is completely unnecessary.
The easiest alternatives to black are gray, dark brown, and navy. Try them in simple solids (like these Frenchi tights from Nordstrom) as a way to add depth and a subtle color variation, or pick up a few patterned pairs to add a shot of texture to a basic ensemble. Besides the classic fishnet - stick to a fine mesh to avoid some of fishnet’s more trashy connotations - herringbones, stripes, argyle patterns, and more are not only popular, but fun to wear and flattering as well. For instance, these Stripes and Dots tights by Wolford manage to appear both edgy and elegant simultaneously, and the stripes would definitely elongate your legs.
