New York Fashion Week Fall 2007. Akiko Ogawa Presents Exotic Deco. Second City Style Fashion Blog
Slinky, open, plunging necklines and flirtacious micro-minis and transparent black blouses stand side-by-side with cigarette pants and miltary-inspired jackets. In a departure from many of her colleagues, Ogowa adopts the exotic side of the Deco trend, presenting a colorful, shiny and vibrant Obi-wrapped kimono and feathery, and dresses that have subtle sparkle. Powerful details like fur and cut-out backs hold their own next to bold plaid stomach-baring ensembles. But her street-smart style speaks volumes as well with a shiny gold elongated ribbed tank paired with somewhat loose-fitting skinny pants.
Color Palette: Black, shiny metallic silver and grey, bold prints and patterns in bright jewel tones with black trim, fur-lined cuffs and collars, as well as beige and silver tones.
Key Looks: Dark legs under Asian-inspired kimono dresses, short skirts and mod dresses, a crisp white shirt makes a few key plays under a tailored jacket. Belts or a strong, definitive black band creates a visual boundary on those pieces that aren't amorphous. A few key pieces are floor-length but are accompanied by a high slit or and open front that makes it look like it's flying down the runway.
