It was a good year, fashionably speaking.
While compiling this article, I realized that one of the most unique aspects of last year’s runways was the frequency at which trends were combined in one outfit. A cardinal style sin – wearing too many "It" looks at once – worked in 2006. Dresses and sweaters combined to make the sweater dress, which was often worn over leggings as a layered look, and frequently in an all white palette or maybe with a metallic piece peeking out and if not only a peek, then in a fully luminous dress...and so forth.
8. Pretty in metallic
I don’t normally use the non-descriptive word pretty, but I find there is no better way to articulate what designers like Burberry did with shiny this year.
7. Get shorty
Be proud of what your momma gave you. If she gave you great legs, that is. The teeny dress, the mini skirt and short shorts were back in action in 2006. And they’re only getting shorter in 2007.
6. White out
All white ensembles were the new power outfit. Some designers went crisp and cool like Narciso Rodriguez, while others channeled breezy “old lady chic” like Chloe.
